SDICR RD Report
2/08/14
Since last RSC I attended 3 RD Support Team meetings, the Western States Zonal Forum and our
first CAR Workshop in Vista.
The RD Support team meetings were where we discussed the best way to present the CAR at the
workshops. I felt the meetings were very productive and want to thank those that participated; our
Activities committee Chairperson Denise, BOT V-Chair Ruben, GSR Steve D. from UEC, concerned
member Pete K. and of course our RDA Don S. The discussions were good and the perspectives offered
by all helped shape our approach to the presentation of the information in the CAR. I was somewhat
disappointed with the lack of RCM involvement but oh well.
Don and I attended the WSZF in Palm Springs and participated in the discussions pertaining to
the CAR and CAT materials. Two World Board members were present and took the time to present the
info and answer questions. There was also much discussion regarding the motions and proposals in the
CAR; which was very helpful in getting a better understanding of the material. We also asked questions
about the conference schedule and procedures since neither Don or myself have been to the WSC in
many years. We will be turning our receipts and all leftover funds from our trip today.
We held our first CAR workshop for the North County areas on February 1st
in Vista. We had 3 GSRs from North coastal, 3 GSRs from N. County Inland and 1 GSR from North Central in attendance,
along with Tomas the RCM from N. Coastal, Our RD Support Team (minus Steve D,), our Policy and
BOT chairs Martha and Steve and several interested members were also in attendance.
The turnout was obviously less than we hoped for but the workshop was successful in informing
the GSRs and members present, at least that was what they said at the end. I personally was impressed
with all of the GSRs present and their desire to inform their groups as evidenced by the willingness they
had to ask questions and participate in the discussions.
I want to give a special thanks to our Regional Activities Committee (Denise and Ruben) for
helping us put the event on and letting us use their “left overs” and to our V-Chair Greg for finding the
location for us. We will be turning in our receipts for funds allotted for this workshop today.
Our next CAR Workshop is on the 15th of February at the San Diego Alano Club on 30
and Grape at 2pm. Hope to see all the RCMs from the San Diego areas there. We have also been asked to
participate in a CAR workshop in UEC on the 22nd of February.
The CAR is still available for free download from na.org or can be purchased from there for $8
including shipping.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve,
Dave Tynes-RD
